Question:I always get this feeling the strings are really really tight. Is it just me or is it actually bad for the guitar?

??? Putting a capo on ANY fret is not bad for the guitar, it's just like playing a barre chord at that fret. I've seen tunes that are supposed to be capoed at higher frets than that. I've often played with a capo at 5th or 7th fret--worry not, play on. Yes the strings feel a little tighter, you'll get used to it.

I've never had a hesitation. Picking it up by the neck, that's bad.

not bad but not good.if it's just on for a few songs it's OK.YES THE STRINGS ARE TIGHT AND A CHANCE THE NECK MIGHT BOW A LITTLE IF LEFT ON ALL TIME.SO

No ,some guitarists use a capo ALL the time.

That's what the capo is for. Take it off when you aren't playing, though.
