Question:I want to improve my singing skills dramatically. Now I know the quick fix is not the best route to go, but I would like to have a professional voice sooner rather than later.

I'm a soprano in training, and I love opera music. I'd love to perform for a big event/concert but I'm just not good enough yet. So what do I do, a high school whose only time to do anything is on the weekends?

I really admire your ambition. But, sad to say, there IS no "quick fix" in becoming a good opera singer. Becoming an opera singer takes time! The very best thing you can do to become a fine opera singer is to study from a very good teacher. No computer games can substitue for that. I promise you that every famous opera singer who sings professionally got there by studying with a good teacher.

Assuming that you have the raw ability, by the time you're in your early 20s, you'll be singing really well. Most opera singers, though, don't hit the big time until they're at a minimum in their mid- to late-twenties, and many don't make it big until they're in their 30s...

Strange but true--some of the gaming systems have games like Karaoke Revolution or Singstar that have you sing into a microphone, and scoring you based on pitch-matching. If you do those, it's been shown that your ability to sing on-key will improve rapidly.

Other than that, practice, practice, practice!

practice a lot, take voice lessons, join a choir or other singing group

If you don't know how (you probably do)- First, get all your notes right and learn to sight read. When reading music, make sure all of your notes are in key (always get your basics down.) After this, just sing, you know. Those singing games like Karaoke Revolution I hear help a lot. Sing in the showers and sing wherever you go. Good way to practice on the weekdays for you. I hope this helps, personally I don't sing but I want some points.
