I'll tell you what I tell all my students, the one that sounds the best to you and has the action that suits you !!!!!!!! You can have a very expensive guitar (which I've had) and an Inexpensive one and the inexpensive one may sound better then the more expensive one. I bought one for $500 dollars less then one that was a thousand dollars more but there was something about the sound that didn't do it for me....so to me you have to play the guitar and pick the one that has that everything that your looking for....everyone likes a certain sound, and it's up to you the player to make that decision....good luck.....You could have one Les Paul that sounds great, and then another one that doesn't do it for you, so you can never tell until you play it.....your the one who has to make the decision it's your ears that have to be pleased !!!!!

It really depends on what you're looking for. As a Gibson Les Paul owner, I know that the Epi has a thick neck, great sustain, all around a very powerful guitar. However, most Jacksons are made for shredding, so they have a very thin neck, basically so you can go fast. So you have to make a decision: Sustain, or speed.

Go with the Les Paul. - looks better. (I can't comment on which would sound better for you.)

Ibanez makes an affordable, light and easy-feeling strat. Epiphones are cheap, Les Paul's are really bulky and heavy. It depends on what you like but the strat is probably the ideal shape for electrics. I prefer Ibanez...

The Les Paul can be really clean, and at the same time rough, it's probably the best choice for any guitar player looking for the prefect sound.

I have one myself and I don't regret ever buying it.
Plus, with the white body, and gold hardware, what more can you ask for? haha.

The Epiphone is almost certainly more versatile, whereas the Jackson is designed specifically for shredding and will not sound good if you try to play anything else on it. (Jacksons do not have a good reputation, btw, at least I've never heard anything good about them.)

Since you play 'almost any kind of rock', it follows that you should get the Epi Les Paul, which is good for most kinds of rock (and also blues, and some kinds of jazz.)

There ya go - applied logic.

I have both of them and love both. Hard question to answer. i love my old 1963 Gibson Les paul for the very fat rocky sound. My jackson, has more bite in the higher end but that is beacause, it has 24 frets which makes a difference. The arpeggio are more responsive on the jackson as well as the cries. Awesome cries.
