Sorry to put it this way, but shes not just going to get started playing right away and know how to read the tabs for a guitar. It took my a day to learn them but actually playing them out good took me a couple of months. She needs guitar lessons. by the way rollocal, there is no such thing as guitar notes. they are called tabs bud. and tabs are the only way of showing how a guitar is to be played when playing a song. besides chords.

The best way to get started is to go to ultimate-guitar.com and look up the tabs to her favorite songs. By learning how to play songs she knows, she'll learn the basic chords. Then, it just builds from there :)

Get a child's music book that makes learning music notation simple for a child. I don't understand these people who put so much energy into learning those stupid TABS rather than spending the same, or less, effort to learn how to READ MUSIC... and I hope you can help her.

I learned how to read music when I was SIX YEARS OLD and it amazes me why some of these people who think they can play a guitar, can only play TABS. At age 11 your daughter can learn notes easier than TABS.

Find a music teacher... a piano teacher would be just fine... and have her teach your daughter how to read music. I doubt it will take more than 2 or 3 sessions and she will have it mastered because it really IS SIMPLE.

Buy s beginner's book. Young child have very good memory and from my experience, i had many students who learnt to read good.
But I discovered their little shceme where they would memorize the song note by note and pretending to read from my sheet.
It was easy for me to find out . All I did was remove the music sheet in front of them and they still kept playing. So, they have good memory but not much co-ordination to read and play at the same time.
Practice makes perfect and sight-reading is what helps to synchronize both hands and the mind.

You can't read but you have the maturity to just follow what they are reading by pointig at the notes. The simplest book are MelBay series. This is the simplest to understand by any non-musician.
