Bass is a lot of fun - you get to groove, you can keep it simple, etc. There aren't as many bassists as guitarists, as was mentioned, so it's a good skill to acquire.

I will definitely say that it was a snap to pick up a bass after playing guitar for a few years.

I would focus on guitar first, since guitar has more difficult fingering, but don't forget that bass.... I don't think that practicing both at the same time is really that bad of an idea. It'll take a little longer to get better that way, but you'll build a strong foundation by understanding how the two instruments interact.

I would say that a guitar player is cooler than a bass player, for whatever that's worth. My brother-in-law plays bass in a jazz band and loves it but the bass is heavier for him to cart around than a guitar would be.

Bass is easier, and there is 30 guitarists for every one bassist. If you play bass, you are guaranteed to get into a band.

yes that is true, but if u really want my opinion, what u should do is work on both of them, it can help u speed things up a bit, just take like, 30 minutes a day for the electric and then 30 minutes for the bass, or whatever time u want to use thats up to u just an example, or one day u can work on the electric, then the next work on the bass, or even u could do it electric for a week straight, like 20 minutes a day or something, then the next week work on bass, mix it up a little, but have fun with it, i always thought it was best for me to have more than one project going at a time so when i get bored with one i can just go do one of my other projects i have going, it keeps me busy.

If you're serious in playing, go with guitar. When you've learned it . bass playing will be easy w/ a few practice.

If not, you can play both.

But basically it depends on what instrument you like. You definitely know it for yourself, you're just confused and undecided.

Learning guitar will provide you with the skills you need to play bass, particularly if you learn to play scales properly. Moving from bass to guitar is more difficult.

That suggestion above about trying to learn both at once--I wouldn't. Beginners have too much to worry about one instrument without cramming the head with a second. Get some basic skills on one of them first and take up the second in a year or so.

here's a 2-string bass

There's guitarists who play bass and then there's bass players.

The best way I know to learn to play guitar is to play bass for great guitar players.
