Question:Electric guitar string gauge help?
hi I'm kinda a guitar noob and I have a fenders standard stratocaster. I have .10 gauge strings on it right now, but I'm wondering whether I should change it. I hear that different gauges can make different sounds and etc. What do you guys recommend? (Keep in mind I'm a noob so keep your fancy lingo at a minimum please)

you sell me your guitar, and you do it now! that's what you do. But in all seriousness, the gauge of your strings shouldn't really matter to you if you're just starting out, there are differences in tone and sustain, but if you're just starting out that shouldn't matter too much to you, it depends what you like to play and how comfortable you are with the strings, if you like a lower more dull tone go with a thicker string, however the thicker string will be a little harder to push down, so you have to take the good with the bad, if you like higher more sharp tones you'd want to go with a thinner string, and those are easier to push, but you're more likely to slice open your finger on them. Hope that helped! if not...keep it to yourself!

10's are fine.

lean toward the heavier side. they will go out of tune a lot and break if you get too light. as you get faster you'll want them lighter, but medium guage is always a good bet to start out.

Maybe .009's, because you probably aren't that strong. Unless you a punk thrasher...then get a set with a wound G string so they'll stay in tune.

PS..The Amplifier is a lot of your sound...once you learn how to play your guitar....learn how to use your amp (s)

yeah try the >009s

I recommend Dean Markley Guitar strings or Picato, both are played on by Ritchie Blackmore of Deep Purple fame and he's no amateur.
I play on Dean Markley myself and 10 gauge on a Strat are fine.

10's

Try some Ernie Ball Regular Slinkys
