Yes there is an Audition required to be in their band. What you need to do now is check with the college band professor on when the last day of audions are, and when/where they will be played. Also there are two types of Auditions, 1 is a Scholarship Audition that is to played before a certain date, and a Band placement Audition to see of which concert season bands you would be placed in.

Probably. University marching bands are very prestigious and they don't allow just anyone to join.
