no it' not too late 57 it's too late maybe...

It is never too late if you really want to learn! Acoustic is good basics and the electric guitar is where you can shine in the future.

Play now that you're young and play hard. Forget about the accoustic guitar.
It's clear to me that for now you don't care about the "proper" way to learn a musical instrument and, hey, nothing wrong with that. It's a good thing. Of course you should start with an accoustic guitar and learn how to read music while at it.
But I get the strong impression that you want to just let it rip and there's nothing wrong with that.
Go ahead, pick up an electric guitar and play to your heart's delight.
Later on, when you become good with the electric guitar and have figured out the style and sound that you want, I'm sure you'll then have the patience to use an accoustic and learn all about music theory and all that good stuff.
But for now don't sweat it. Just go ahead and bang that amp!

it's never too late, I've taught people who were past 30, check spytunes.co.uk it's free, you can start learning now.

definitely not. my friend norm started practicing sax at 65. he is now 77 and a very fluent with the sax. so your answer is no. you're never "too old" to learn anything.

I learned power chords at first and started playin only rock. You'll pick up an acoustic eventually =p. Never too late though.

Hell no. Sonny Sharrock didn't start until he was 18. Henry Kaiser didn't start until he was 20, and neither did Tal Farlow, one of the most technically brilliant jazz guitarists.

Learn the one you want to learn. Don't learn acoustic first because you are told it will help you to play electric; it won't, they are two quite different instruments (although you physically play them the same way, they involve different ways of thinking about the guitar). You should learn acoustic in the end and you probably will, because you'll just get the itch for it sooner or later. But don't put off the pleasure of playing the instrument you want to play because you are told it's essential to learn a different instrument first. It isn't. Get yourself an electric and start messing around on it.

ok i know this sound crazy stupid but i would take classical guitar before going into rock. classical is so much better for getting down basics and getting really good. once your good at classical you'll be able to play any style you want with ease. believe me i take classical only because i was told by EVERYONE that i needed to to get good at acoustic. believe me it helps immensly. and no 17 is not to old.

Believe me there is no specific age 2 learn any musical instrument.Only u should have passion 4 ur music & 4 d instrument u play..............its all in ur heart & mind & soul....i feel u should learn acoustic guitar first..
best luck with ur guitar..

im 14 and just bought an electric guitar yesturday. i dont think 17 is too old to start playing! if u dont think you will play the acoustic, then get an electric thats what i did!

good luck!
