Question:I'm 14 and I want to buy an acoustic. My dad wants me to order it online since theres a lot of great deals and its pretty cheap. But I really want to go to a music store or something so I can try them out - even though they might be more expensive. What should I do?

also are there any good fairly cheap brands I should look out for?

If your a beginner it won't make much difference to you if you went into a shop to try it out - because you don't know different sounds of guitars properly yet. If you do go to the shop you can just try them to see which ones are comfortable, because some are massive and can be very uncomfortable to play. Acoustic's tend to be cheap in general, and they don't really have different sounds whereas some electric guitars sound a lot different, because they're electric and can use the pick ups to change the tone slightly. Acoustics don't have pick ups and they have the hole in them which the sound goes in and vibrates around. So it doesn't reallly matter what make acoustic you get, and the prices online won't be much different to the actual price in the shop unless there's an online sale. If you have any more questions then you can send me a message or something. x

Its actually easier if you start with an acoustic. You can buy a regular book and start studying notes. What i did is i bought an electric/acoustic to get adapted to the strings. Since acoustics have thicker strings than electrics you can practice more. Once your used to the acoustic you can play an electric.
