Position:Home>Performing Arts> Any tips on how I can learn to play and sing on my guitar?

Question:I have been playing the guitar for about 7-8 months. I cant seem to Play certain strum patterns and sing at the same time. Is there anyway I can get coordinated enough to play and sing at the same time?

Here are some of the songs I am working on right now:

Your Call- Secondhand Serenade
Vulnerable- Secondhand Serenade

I can play the guitar parts but when when i try to add lyrics I get all off tempo. Please help.

Practice, practice, practice.

That's not what you want to hear but here's how. You have to learn each part separately. Do you have a metronome (a device that keeps time/the beat)? If so, set it to the tempo of the piece and work each part separately, guitar and then voice. Then, turn the metronome down about 15-20 clicks and sing play the first two bars until you can do it in time. Then move the metronome up two clicks. Repeat until those two bars are perfectly together and in time. Then, move on to the next two bars of the song and repeat. It takes time, but when you know it, you'll KNOW it.

When i started to practice that, then at first i had the lyrics in front of me and i sung along in my thoughts. Then i started from step to step to sing loud. That helped pretty well.
Hehe, isn't it really funny how singing can mess up all the rhythm and coordination, eh? Well, not so funny in the beginning when you really want to do those things together.
Good practicing!

Only single strum the chords until you get your timing down. Start easy then progress
