I play guitar, and have played drums, but I hadn't used my kit for 5 years, so I P/X'ed it for a travel guitar.
Go for guitar. it's easier, less expensive, and a lot easier to carry around. You can take a guitar to parties and such, or sit around with your friends and sing. Also, it doesn't annoy the neighbours!
Get a new set of strings on your guitar, get a book of chords , ans learn some. You should be aware though, that it will hurt your left hand fingers a lot to start with, although that wears off after a time, and you cannot have long, pretty nails on your left hand (although as a pianist perhaps you don't anyway!)

Hope this helps, but please email me if I can help further.
God bless you

u so should play the guitair me and my best friend r goin to star to play it her bf is teachin us how to play it >.< hopefully u have fun bii

it would be great to play the drums, its not very difficult either apparently but i vote play guitar. you could probably do more with it etc.
:]

wow..you're inclined to music, aren't you..? :)

anyway,
i suggest you play guitar..
it can be the future for you to become a famous acoustic guitar player...:)

you know, once you learned about how to play guitar, you can create your own songs easily...
playing guitar is fun..!
i, myself is still learning,...:)

--and if you already have an acoustic guitar, then it's better 'cause you'll not spend that much anymore(unlike in drums)..right..?

:)

You should play the instrument that you feel in your heart.....you'll do better if you play something that you have a passion for. As for your missing D string, if you can't afford a whole set go to your local music store you can buy just one string.....by the way you can get a set of strings for about $10.00 - $12.00 dollars. Good luck to you. I play classical and acoustic guitar and it's given my years of pleasure !!!!!!!!!

guitar more versatile , easy transportable and your neighbours may appreciate that more

The biggest benefits from drumming are:

1) IF you're good enough (don't fall apart on fills, etc.) then you'll be in demand for rock bands--there are lots and lots of guitarists but a shortage of good bassists and drummers.

2) The physical workout keeps you in shape.

If you can be patient, a drumset can be found for less than $200 at http://www.shopgoodwill.com sometimes.

Now, that acoustic guitar without a D string--perhaps you want to replace strings? Shop at http://www.musiciansfriend.com

Play the guitar. I've been playing for years.

I've played both for years....

Drums for 22 years
Guitar for 10 years.

Honestly, the guitar is much easier to play. And also lighter to carry around. You need your own car to haul your own drums around. Its' something to think about., that's all. Drums requires you to use all your 4 limbs at the same time. Just keep that in mind if you want to learn drums.
I feel more frere with playing guitar because you can stand, or walk around and move around more freely with it.
With drums...you are sitting there in the same spot for hours.
Good luck

Guitar and drums are both equally difficult.

Guitar is difficult because once you get into it, you are confronted with advanced music theory and cross-picking techniques and counterpoint and the scale syllabus and all of a sudden you realise that there are many, many more peaks to climb than you thought there were.

Drums are difficult because they are physically challenging, you have to carry this huge amount of stuff around with you, it requires even more physical coordination than the guitar, and...and once you get into it, you are confronted with advanced music theory and polyrhythms and timbre and playing one beat against another and all of a sudden you realise that there are many more peaks....etc.

In the short term, though, guitar is more fun. And less annoying to everybody else in the house.
