Position:Home>Performing Arts> I play in a band...(keyboard/piano) any tips or tricks?

Question:lol
Ok, I play keyboard/piano in a band, and we play off chord sheets. Any advice on how to mix it up a little so that I'm not just playing chords? Like, inversions and fifths and stuff.
Anything different and cool and funky.

On the slow stuff, arpeggios. For inspiration: Chicago, "Color My World"; Emerson Lake and Palmer, "Take a Pebble" intro; Dave Matthews Band, "The Space Between"/

On the faster stuff, look for riffs and harmonic rhythms. Make it funky now! Inspiration for rhythms: King Crimson, "Happy Family", Stevie Wonder, "Superstition", Steely Dan, "Stranger on the Rocks". Inspiration for riffs: the Cars, "Let's Go", Gary Newman, "My Car", Gary Wright, "My Love is Alive".
