Position:Home>Performing Arts> How hard is Metallica's "One" to learn on the guitar?

Question:I have no experience with guitars but really want to learn how to play Metallica's "One", if I just watch and mimic videos of people playing it how long would it take for a person to be able to play it? (I don't mean in Guitar Hero)
100 hours? 300? Is it even possible?

This is pretty ironic but this is the First song I ever learned on guitar (not all the way through). But it isn't really that hard. The solos aren't really hard either. If you get the right tabs it will be easier than you think. Making it sound clean is the best part and what takes most practice. The distorted solo isn't that crazy either, but keep in mind during the tapping part Kirk uses his pick instead of his finger. Watch some people that play in on Youtube that get it right and pretty legit if you can't find videos to help you and read the tabs and try to play along with others that are good. That will help a lot.

I would rank it about 6/10 on difficulty. 10 being something like Dimebag Solos or Stevie Ray Vaughn's crooked as all get out chords and scales that are ridiculous to learn =p

You're about to learn ONE of the greatest solo in rock history...so I might say that the solo will take you a lot of time to learn. The riff is actually quite simple..maybe you will memorize it in a day if you play it non-stop...but if you get into the solo and nail it perfectly after a few or shoud I said a LOT of practise ..well Good job mate! I only can play the main riff and rythm part in One... I give up on the solo part, not that I have to but I dunno, I'm not a guitarist. I'm the man behid the drumset, just wanted to learnt that songs because I love that songs (I actually love the double bass in that songs and do that sometimes when I'm jamming with my friends)

It's quite hard to say how long that it takes to play the whole song because everyone capability of learning is different from each other...it's hard work that count.

However, I wish you luck to play that whole songs! Maybe you can upload it in youtube once you master it....
