Watch something for some inspiration.. or maybe even just take a break from playing.

Does your ennui extend to other areas of your life or is it just music? Perhaps if you tried playing in a genre you've never tried before, something that vibrates with raw energy from a source you've yet to tap. If that doesn't work, learn a new instrument. There's no surer way to fire up those neurons than to force your mind (and fingers) into different pathways.

I was in the same place, and found new life by learning to play Irish and old-time music on mandolin and pennywhistle. It also put me into a new social setting with new stories being told, new energy.

If you feel like you're in a rut, it may be because you are. If that's the case, clamber out of it, no matter what it takes.

Marijuana?

Throw back a few with the guys and just jam out
