How long will it take me to do this (guitar)?

Question:Well, ive had my guitar for 3 weeks, ive only been able to play it for 2 weeks, ive been playing 1 - 5 hours a day. Im able to go up and down the fret board, alternate pick, and move my fingers around . I have not learned any chords, what chords would u reccomend for a wanna be heavy metal guitarist. And how long does it take you to learn these chords.

Ive been practicing my scales, and just expierimenting with the fret board. Can go top to bottom fairly quickly with ease.

Learn all your open chords : You have to know open chords for every style of guitar playing.

This will keep you busy for a few months.
After you can change smoothly from one chord to the other then you can learn bar chords.
