Most of the above answers are pretty awful.

An Alto can achieve a resonant, full sound in their lower range (chest voice), which is generally below Middle C on the piano. An alto can often sing a tenor part, and can't sing high above Middle C. They can also belt more easily than a soprano.

A Soprano has trouble achieving resonance and fullness of sound in their lower register (chest voice) but can hit notes well above a Middle C.

A Mezzo can sing high, but not too high, and low, but not too low, and generally can belt more easily than can a soprano.

if you're italian then you're a soprano, otherwise you're alto.

Here is the range for choral voices which is different to opera voices.

Try to sing the notes as indicated on the piano to see what you are.

A few notes on alto voices :

Why not ask your choir teacher.....she/he should know.....or google this : finding your vocal range......and I'll bet that there will be a lot of links for you to go to and test yourself !!!!!!!!

If you can't hit High C cleaning, then you are an alto

if you get voice ranged and tested out through a choir or voice teavher...it usually has a lot to do with your chest voice and how high you can hit!!!

Easier to hit the high notes- soprano
Easier to hit the low notes- alto

you test your voice to see how high or low it is. alto is lower than a soprano. soprano is high pitched
