You think you're too old at FIFTEEN? Are you NUTS? You have your WHOLE LIFE AHEAD OF YOU!

Sorry for shouting but you started it. Seriously, 15 is a pretty normal age to start. Pat Metheny was 13 when he started and he is admittedly more talented than most of us, even if he only occasionally makes a really great record. The late great Sonny Sharrock was 18 when he started playing and when he died, aged fiftysomething, he was one of the most awesome guitarists on the planet - but he had sung doo-wop as a teenager, so he knew a bit about music already.

Finally, though, the great experimental guitarist Henry Kaiser didn't pick up any instrument at all until he started playing guitar at 20. He's now an internationally renowned master of the instrument.

So, cool it. You have loads of time.

You start like this: you get a guitar, you get an amp, a lead, a strap and a pick. You get them to tune the guitar for you in the shop.

You take it all home, you plug it all in, you strap on the guitar, you put on one of your favourite CDs and you start trying to play along with it.

It's the best way to start. There will be time later for learning scales, modes, chords, rhythms, sight-reading, tritone substitution and everything else. You start by messing around on the guitar.

don't worry. u still have time. just take guitar lessons or even buy those dvd movies that show u and teach u how to play. I did both of those and i learned. I started when I was 14 turning 15 and now i play perfectly

PSSH! you are NEVER too old! you dont need to know how to read music! just use tabs! get a dummy book. i taught myself, ive been playing for three years with classical and electrical guitars. i love it so much! you dont need notes, just tabs, which are very easy to read and use. learn three chords and you'll know thousands of easy songs :D! good luck!!

your never too old to learn something new!!!

you can just buy your self a guitar, get some lesson books, and maybe even get some private lessons.

if you are determined enough to play, you will be good at it pretty quickly. but it is a lot of work learning to play and instrument so don't think that you will learn within a month and can "rock out" with in a month. it will take probably years .. but if u really have a love for music.. GO FOR IT!!!

You're never too old to learn! You don't need to read music.
!st problem - can you afford an electric guitar and amplifier?
2nd problem - do you have time to practise?
3rd problem are you aware it will hurt like crazy at first?
OK, having bought your guitar (try a Fender Squier Strat pack for example) get a book of chords . Choose 2 or 3, like A D E for example. Start on A. finger it, play it. Then try D do the same, then practise changing between the 2. Then do the same with E. When you have those 3 chords, you can play in the key of A and can play a lot of classic rock'n'roll, like Johnny B Goode, Hound Dog, Blue suede shoes etc. They're a good starting point. Hope this helps, and happy picking.

As long as you can have moderate control of your fingers you're never too old to learn to play the guitar. I learned at age 16 on an acoustic Gibson.

I never recommend beginning students to learn to play an electric guitar until they have assumed some mastery of the acoustic. Why? Because an acoustic guitar demands additional patience, perseverance, and determination to move beyond the sore fingertips.

You must first build up the finger strength and train them to do things they're unaccustomed to doing. Playing an acoustic can be done anywhere; the electric guitar must have an accompanying amplifier. You don't need to hinder your progress with thoughts of amplifiers, patch cords, foot pedals, distortion switches and the like.

A simple acoustic guitar is best.

No. You're never too old to learn anything.

Getting good on guitar, or any instrument, is a function of time. The more you play, the better you get.

1) Get yourself a guitar
2) Get yourself a teacher
3) Get a tuner and learn how to use it
4) Get a simple chord book
5) Get the charts or a fake book of your favorite songs. These show the words and simple chord changes.

Boom! You're rocking!

yes you are to old
