Position:Home>Performing Arts> What should i play next year?

Question:so i'm in my school's marching band (yes i'm a band geek and proud!) and i've been playing bass clarinet for 5 years (regualar Bb clarinet for 7). i found out that most college marching bands don't allow bass clarinets so i was thinking of switching to saxophone next year. but i can't decide if i should play alto or tenor. The alto i hear is easy to switch to from clarinet and is lighter than the bass clarnt. but the tenor is in Bb and that would make reading music easier. but its much heavier and i'm kinda little ... can someone help me decide??

I'm in marching band too and I march the alto, and I've been playing alto for 4 years, and I started playing tenor this year. If you're little, then I would definitely recommend marching alto since it is alot lighter. and don't let the eb key scare you lol, alto sax is the easiest instrument to learn how to play! And I started on clarinet in 5th grade and it was VERY easy to switch to alto I had no problems at all. You should do fine. hope this helps. :)

You'll read music the same way regardless. The only reason the tenor part might be easier is that it usually doesn't carry the melody as much as the alto does and the alto tends to have more runs and trills.
