Hmmm. I wonder if you have the epiphone valve jr.... No biggie.

Anyhoo, I totally second the Metal Zone. Get a power adapter for it, it chews through batteries. It's highly adaptable, gets a wide variety of tones.... that is, heavy metal tones. No weak fuzz, it's either a heavily compressed flavor of metal (buzz, shriek, chug, etc) or nothing.

The Boss DS-1 is pretty good pedal for grunge, solo boost, various flavors of rock (classic and modern), and alternative.

Digitech has various flavors of distortion, but i'm not very partial to them. You should test run them before you rule them out, though.

The Proco Rat is popular, but it's mostly used a supplemental distortion... a distortion pedal to drive a dirty channel, make it ... well, dirtier.

The Big Muff and Big Muff Metal are great fuzz and metal/fuzz pedals respectively. Think Bush... that's a pretty easy sound to get from the Big Muff.

So.... basically, you need to find something that works for your style of music. Most metal pedals won't work for anything softer, and a pedal that rules for Led Zeppelin won't work for Slayer.

Hope this helped.

I absolutely LOVE my Boss Metal Zone. It has a nice heavy distortion and has a lot of room to play with the sound (as far as analog stomp boxes go). You can shape the low, mid, high, and even the frequency of the mid. Very good buy for the money.

Most guitar shops have these available to play around with, so I would recomend taking your guitar down and plugging it in. That way you can see how YOUR axe sounds with it.

Hope that helps!

Buy a Boss. There's the super Distortion, the Overdrive and the HM-2>>>. Heavy metal .
Depends what you are looking for in sound. the heaby metal is mostly used intoday's music.
