The hardware is close to being the same except that the wood used to make the neck, is more aged with the fender stratocaster especially, the vintage models.
All in all, I canplay on anyone and doesn't matter. Having said this, I have a 1963 Gibson Les paul andit has a fat sound and awesome tone.
Now, I compared it to the Epiphone and actually, the Epiphone, for a fraction of the price, had a lot of bite and a very good sound.

Different pickups, hardware, wood, fretwires, tuners, and craftsmanship.
They are only alike in their basic physical appearance.

They are made with different materials. Different pick ups and different sound quaility.

The American Fender Strat is made in America and costs $2,000

The Squire is made in China or Tiwan and costs $300
