Position:Home>Performing Arts> How good is Julliard??? Is it hyped up a bit? Do you get challenged, tested, and

Question:I play a fair few instruments, however my main one is violin. I love it, study it, can't get enough of it! Without music, I feel pretty much dead.
I practice a minimum of 2hrs a day - usually 3, have been working a LOT on technical exercises and theory, love classical music, group, solo, etc. Composing is fantastic, I love a challenge and being pushed! Sightreading is pretty easy for me...
My problem is, I cannot find a course in Australia that is anywhere near as comprehensive as that of Julliard's.
So, is Julliard just hyped up - or is it actually good? Does it cover basics and then get harder or just get stuck into it? What are the chances of a job once you leave Julliard and how much does it cost? (I've been on their site, but couldn't find any definite costs). Also, can you be involved in chamber orchestra as well as quartet etc???
Also, if you have been there, did you find it beneficial??? Did you come out a better, more comprehensive, musician than when you went in? I'm16

i think check out the teacher there for violin to decide and perhaps email them
i also believe for international students its like 30k.. it was heaps thats all i remember, email them :)
all the best!

I haven't attended school there, but Juilliard is extremely highly regarded. I should expect its quite rigorous, particularly considering its small student body and low acceptance rate.

o if only I had, had this dilemma. I wanted to be pushed too. Challenged, toughened up, excitement in learning. You, yourself may just inspire them to go further. People in those places know what is good...who can be great. So if you even have a choice in an education, go for it.

Not a hype school by any stretch of the imagination.

BUT...stay clear from AMDA (American Musical & Dramatic Academy - they're hacks. They're only training chorus people).

If you can get into Juliard, bless your heart. You're better than I am!
