u play it and if it doesn't sound good well 2 bad u can't change how good u r u either have it or u dont i have been playing 4 6 yrs

you practice every single day for 2 hours.you do the chromatic scale,the major and minor scales and the arpeggios as well as playing out of a book or the flute music.i played for 8 years and still play when i go home on the weekends yet you can tell that i have not practiced in forever.you might want to get a metronome that has a built in tuner like my brother has you know how to adjust your mouth-piece.also make sure that you do not have any leaks or sticky notes which might affect your playing.also it takes time to become of good player so do not expect to pickup the flute and play perfectly because even the most talented people who play the flute with ease have to work at it.if you really want to be good maybe you want to think about getting a private teacher once or twice a week since i have had friends who did that and improved and made first chair as well as moving up in a higher band.i for one did not do that not did i give up but rather i worked harder.it is up to you to improve and yes we all can tell you a thousand things but if you do not have the passion or are not driven enough then it does not matter because you need to want something really bad to go after it!i suggest following your dream one step at a time!

I play the flute too...
To warm it up before playing, blow directly with your hole mouth over the hole into the mouth piece.
Cleaning the flute inside and on the joints is very important.
But basically - practice makes perfect!
