I've seen underage kids play at bar shows, but it's not often - most bar owners do not want to deal with the risk factor of getting busted with having a minor on the premises with alcohol. That's a major fine (or even risk of getting the bar shut down), and many bar owners just can't afford to take that kind've risk. Don't expect it. That said, I have seen at least one band where one member was underage and just stayed out in the car until the set, played, then left.

And yes, I am a gigging musician. I may not have 20-something years of experience under my belt, but this is just the truth. It sucks, but that's the way it is.

My best suggestion is to look for open mic's, coffee shops, battle of the bands, and house parties you can play at. How cool would it be to get two bands together and have a double feature at a larger house? Sometimes all ages clubs spring up and have live music nights. A lot of times these places run off of ticket sales, so they aren't always the best place to start (unless you know a lot of people who absolutely will spend 10 bucks or whatever to see your band play), so look for free first. That way you can get used to the stage and start to develope your showmanship.

Keep improving and honing your craft - you're very limited because of your age, but if you practice now it'll pay off when you aren't.

Good luck!

well find a place where local bands play, most cities have them, then call and try to set one up. and you can advertise with fliers around the city.

post flyers and try to play in a store or a place you can cheaply rent and if you are good than you will gradually get more and more

call any local venues or clubs/bars and ask if they need any opening acts, try calling some school n asking about dances.
start off small and work your way to bigger and better shows

At your age, throw a party or play at someone elses. Invite a few people (especially girls) over to watch you practice. Word of mouth will spread. Many schools have talent shows, too. Keep your eyes open for opportunities.

In my town bands at that age do showcases in library basements, churches, and festivals.

Unfortunately most bars will not permit anyone under the age of 21 after 9pm

Hey.. to the idiot who gave me a thumbs down, I'm a musician who works in a music store who gigs on bass drums and keyboards in 4 bands and has been playing now for 23 years..... Lay OFF!!! this is just my answer based on my experience. You guys are touchy with your opinions of others

Sweet, ur in a band and want a gig. i've been in a band since i was in middle school, and i remember my first gig like it was yesterday. I'm 17 now. Ur a bit too young to be playing at anything big, and i remember getting frustrated because we were so young. Once you get into high school gigs will get easier if you're good at what u do. We get all the bands in my town, and we play at parks. We put up signs, and a lot of people show up. I'm also in charge of battle of the bands for my school, and it's awsome. So now we're about to record our first Cd. SO thats all the advise i can give u. You need to be creative and cool. And you'll get a gig. just dont be afraid to get out there with other bands. And dont even ask about bars, because they will give u a big NO! and laugh.

You need a manager. Or, if they do let you play, you arfe allowed but cannot stay in the club after each set. You have to wait in the lodge or outside.
