Question Home

Position:Home>Performing Arts> Im trying to learn guitar and i have a question. What is easier electric or acou

Question:Good question. In my experience acoustic is a little easier. There are less knobs and bars to use, in that, there aren't any except for those used to tune it. There are just six strings and fret board. Electric becomes easier to learn if you already know how to play acoustic because you've already got the basics down. Also, acoustic is cheaper. There is no need for extra cables, an amp or a slightly higher utility bill. It's one piece of machinery.

Which ever you choose I would suggest either taking a class or, if you want to be self-taught pick up Basix Guitar Method 1 by Ron and Morty Manus. It comes with a CD to tune it, walks you through each string and slowly builds up to simple chords and different styles including blues, rock, jazz, classical, folk and country.

Good luck.

electric but you should learn acoustic first ( :

It really depends on what you want to play. If you can play one, then you can play the other.

I started on an acoustic, learned chords & barre chords and basic fingerstyling, and I play occasionally on an electric. They are both 6-string; the only real difference is you have to have an amp to plug an electric into; the acoustic can be played without an amp.

id go for the banjo or ukeleili if i was you

Well, if you learn to play one, you can usually play the other.

I would start on acoustic.

It really depends on your purpose for learning the guitar. But, I think it's best to LEARN on an affordable acoustic guitar. Personally, I like nylon strings cuz they're easier on my fingers, but if you're going to be a serious player, you'll need to develop calluses on your fingers...so in that case, use steel strings. Plus an acoustic guitar's neck is much wider than an electric and a little easier to see finger/hand positions.
Once you're competent with the basic chords and you're interested in playing rock guitar style, then get an electric guitar and amp.
But I'd start with an acoustic!

Hi,
It all depends on what type of music you want to play. Generally, electric guitars are physically easier to play because the action is set up lower (strings) making it easier for the beginner to depress the strings. An electric also usually has a thinner neck making it easier for smaller hands. In the end result, I find that acoustic will have a better sound for playing classical or folk type music.

Good Luck!
