Position:Home>Performing Arts> NATS Competition Song Ideas?

Question:I am a college student studying Vocal Performance at the University of Alaska, Anchorage. I am participating in the NATS (National Association for Teachers of Singing) Competition this year in both the Classical and Musical Theatre categories. I have all my songs chosen except for one, and I have hit a dead end. I need a musical theatre "character" piece written prior to 1960. Something along the lines of "Adelaide's Lament" from Guys And Dolls would be perfect, I just cant do that particular song because several other students are doing it already. I have a very reserved personality, so I want to really show that I can leap out of my box with pizzazz. Something that is funny, vivacious, silly... I have a wide vocal range, but it is on the high side. My low note is a G or an A, my high notes are as high as I need them to be. I could really use any suggestions you may have, and I would greatly appreciate your help. Thank you!

You don't mention if you belt at all - there's "Always True to You" from Kiss Me, Kate; there's the song from King and I - "Shall I Tell You What I think of you?" - There's "Just You Wait, Henry Higgins" or "Show Me" from "My Fair Lady" - there's "I Can't Say No" from Oklahoma - there's "Honey Bun" from South Pacific; "Shy" from Once Upon a Mattress; "Glitter and be Gay" from Candide; "It's a Perfect Relationship" and "I'm Going Back" from Bells are Ringing; "I can Cook too" from On the Town; "You Can't Get a Man with a Gun" from Annie Get Your Gun; Diamonds are a Girl's Best Friend. I hope some of these help.
