Position:Home>Performing Arts> Flute tarnishing.?

Question:Hey everyone. I play the flute and am currently working on grade 7 AMEB. My flute has tarnished because I forgot to clean it when I went away and came back 5 weeks later to find it had tarnished. It is silver plated so would a silver polish work? Please get back to me. Thanks.

I used silver polish on my beginning silver-plated flute once. The only issue I ran into was removing the polish. I ended up using water which destroyed my pads. (Whoops, that was 9 years ago)

You can use silver polish to get major areas, but don't try to get near keys or any of the pins that hold the keys up!

I would take it somewhere to get it professionally cleaned. Although it seems like something you could do yourself, it's better to pay for it to be cleaned, than mess something up and have to get it repaired.

Take it to a repair shop! Be aware of using silver polish it may damage the silver! Remember that your sound is not affected by how your Flute looks. In some circles It can be good to have a little 'dirty' on your Flute! Its shows how much its used
