Position:Home>Performing Arts> I'm 24. Do you think it's possible that if I started learning how to dan

Question:Many people tell me I have no rhythm in dancing. & they say I'm too stiff, slow, & nervous. I have anxiety disorders, & when I dance in front of people, I can't focus as well as alone because I'm afraid of being laughed at & ridiculed. I need to lose weight & I heard dancing is a great way to lose weight.

Many people say you can't teach an old dog new tricks. I just want to dance for fun & personal pleasure. Do you think I can improve & become a whole lot better at it if I practice?

***I'm going to also throw this one in. What about learning how to play the musical piano keyboard? Same thing. I get nervous & mess up easily. I would like to buy a keyboard & learn how to play it. People think I won't master playing the keyboard successfully since I'm not so young.

I would like to do these on my own time & as extra hobbies & explore my creativity. Also to help relieve my depression. (That's if I become good @ it. LOL)

& I suck @ drawing & would like to learn how to draw.

You should take it slow. Try finding a gym that does some kind of dance. Start out in the back of the room where no one can see you and move your way up as you get use to it. It might get you over all the stiffness and nervousness. It might even help if you have a friend go with you that makes you feel good about yourself to encourage you. Once you get over the jitters, you will probably dance really good, and play the piano without messing up. Good Luck!!!

you can learn how to dance, i've been dancing for 10 years, and i've seen older people come in and learn, and i mean 40 year olds. just find a studio and ask questions on anything you dont understand, if you just have fun your jitters will go away...good luck! Report It

I'm 19...younger ya..and I love belly dancing but I'm not good at it..so few days ago i ordered a belly dancing DVD on eBay..i looked up and chose the best one they had..and I haven't received it yet I should be receiving it soon....u can do the same if u wanna learn to dance..its never too late to learn anythingg!!!! Do ittt ..show them u can

Why don't you concentrate on one thing at a time. Dancing sounds like fun and it IS good exercise. You may enjoy that more without getting frustrated. That is my vote (if I get a vote) LOL

You could learn and it would certainly be fun and fruitful. Honestly, if you're looking to become a virtuoso and famous, that ship has already sailed. But if you're keeping your expectations modest, I don't see any reason why you can't accomplish your goals.
