How can you tell if you can sing?

Question:i mean i think i can sing but i am not sure, and i am way to nervous to ask someone. how do i know i can sing without asking someone? i have tried using a recording machine but it gets all hazy and i can't tell

There are many problems with all the other answers. The first problem is that if you pay someone to tell you if you can sing or not, they will tell you that you can sing so you will come back (and pay more money). Also, you can't listen to yourself because you might be tone deaf. It happens. Get a good friend (maybe a musician friend) to test you out. They will most likely tell you the truth. Just don't pay them.

get a piano and try matching its pitch.

Record yourself then place it on youtube. Or Find someone you really trust, someone who will tell you the truth... and ask them.

The best way is to get someone else's honest opinion. If you're too shy to do that then maybe pay for some singing lessons and your teacher should be able to instruct you on how well you're doing and that way you won't be embarrased because you're going in on the basis that you're wanting to 'learn' so if they tell you you're not as good as you thought it's not soo bad.

Another way would be to see if you can sing along to song on a cd, mimicking the notes and holding them for the length of time that the artist does.

You could always try singing with your bedroom door slightly ajar when someone else is home so that they'll end up hearing you and may comment on it later.
