Position:Home>Performing Arts> Is ART all-consuming...is family life possible?

Question:Very interesting question, I have been asking myself the same question for the past 10-14 years of my life. Since my involvement in art I've discovered that it is quite impossible to concentrate on the material aspect of life and at the same time on art. For me art is like another world, it goes much farther than paper and pensile, the world of art lets me escape all the unpleasant things in real world.
Once again to answer your question- I think if u can dedicate your life to art and at the same time make it profitable, then yes u have a chance of creating a family. At least this is what I'm more concerted about -financial aspects of having a family.

Monet seems to have had a normal life with his wife other than that and a few more isolated cases, ART is a cruel mistress. She is fickle and will tolerate no disloyalty.

I believe so. My parents both love music to no other. I was singing before i could talk because thats how my parents have raised my sis and me. plus some of the best art pieces (in my opinion) are based off of love or broken hearts, that the artist experianced. So yes

Comic book artist Wallace Wood is a good example for this. He was one of the top artists in his field, often pulling all nighters when working on his drawings and putting the work ahead of his family. And he paid the price. He was married and divorced 3 times; and in the end, committed suicide.
A healthy balance is required in all things.
