Question:It seems that on most guitar tabs, there is an extra note 2 frets lower than the lowest note on a chord, which I cannot play, as my fingers are too short. For example
-------------------------------e
-------------------------------b
-------------------------------g
-3-3-3-----------------------d
-3-3-3-----------------------a
-1-1-1-----------------------e

or something like that. How can I manage to reach the e1?

dont fret! (no pun intended) (ok, maybe it was intended) Keep stretching your fingers and practicing and It will become less and less uncomfortable

i used to have the same problem i bet almost everyone does, just keep practicing and dont get frustrated in time youll be able to get it

When I was still a beginner I had that problem. You have to use your pinkie or if that doesn't work, well . . . i don't know.

Use your thumb to get position one and the second and third fingers placed in the third fret on the fifth and the fourth strings.

Thumbs are used frequently in guitar playing. I've been using the left thumb since 1956 and it works well.

I never had a problem with that actually. Just put your index finger on the one, and then your ring finger on the 3 (a string) and your pinkie on the other 3 (d string). That is an extremely common shape in standard tuning, as it forms a power chord. Once you barre it across you can form the majors and minors too. So it is definitely worth learning, but I'd recommend starting with the open chords if you haven't yet (they're easier).

just like said below use your index, ring and pinkie. or you could use your index and pinkie to cover both notes int he 3rd position. if i was you i would work in using three fingers to help build up for barre chords.
