I'd go with either Fender, Squier (which is a subsidiary of Fender) or Ibanez. All three of these a put together pretty well, and are fairly inexpensive (around $200, give or take). When you're just learning...don't worry so much about the fancy stuff (or even the tone, really). Once you get REALLY good at playing, and providing you still have the desire to play..."graduate" yourself to a higher quality (not to mention more expensive) instrument (ie: Gibson..etc.). You'll then be able to fully appreciate the feel/sound a top-notch guitar can give you.
This is just my opinion, though. Really, if you can get a hold of a great deal on any electric guitar..go for it. You can always upgrade later.

I'll say a nice electric guitar might be an Ibanez GRX20 Electric Guitar, check it out here:

Something fairly cheap, to be honest. We all start off thinking we will be a rock star fast, but most folks give it up very soon, which makes a large purchase a real waste. Once you can outplay the guitar you bought, you will already know what type you want next....and haven't wasted a lot of coin on one you may not like in a year. Just from experience. The brand doesn't matter really, just semi decent. Maybe a Fender Squire, or something along those lines. 150 bucks or so, some even come with amps, as a starter package. Unless you are rich, start with the basics, and see if you will continue to play. I would, however, suggest getting a pedal or two, depending on what you like to play. They are very inexpensive, at the beginner level, and help a lot with the sound. Echo and distortion for rock, echo only for country. The pedals, when set properly, add a bit of depth to your sound. If a rocker, have fun with the distortion pedal, but always practise clean at least half the time. Only a sloppy player always needs fuzz.....

1. Fender Squire (around $200)
2. Epiphone Les Paul or SG ( around $200-$300)
3. Ibanez (around $200-$400)
4. Gibson Melody Maker ($350)

These are all good quality brand name guitar so they are not junk.
