Position:Home>Performing Arts> Getting a band together when your friends suck at music?

Question:How would you go about getting a six or seven person group together when none of your friends play or just goof off on the instruments. One of my friends used drum sticks on my bass guitar. Do you think it'll be a good idea for the time being to just record my music and just go around singing to pre recorded music? Any advice will be good.

LOL drum sticks on a bass guitar. Sorry but that's hilarious. I do comedy and just use a keyboard to try to do some techno rap stuff. I assume you want more than just a keyboard though. Try running ads in the paper. Try the pre recorded music and when you do a show say that you are looking for musicians. Who knows you might have a band together in a week. You could go solo....... just a suggestion.

Sounds like your friends are just jacking around. Find someone else to play with. Go to the music store and look for bands looking for a bass player. Look on cragslist for muscian ads too. Also try going to a local open mic and seeing if anybody wants to jam.

Pre-record and go solo.Obviously, they don't take the work seriously and if they don't like it,tough.Entertainment is serious business and there's a discipine,a work ethic that's needed for any measure of sucsess. You have it,they don't drop em like a hot rock

sounds like your friends are hacks. check around and see if there are a small group of kids in band who wouldn't mind starting a group. Otherwise you're better off going "solo" for right now. That way your friends won't make you mad when they screw around on instruments.
