What is a good digital piano for the experienced pianist?

Question:I am looking for a digital piano between $500 and $1,000 (preferably on the lower end). It needs to be something easily transportable with weighted keys and a pedal. I don't need all of those fancy sound effects but I do want a nice sound to it, also I'd like to have all 88 keys with a jack for headphones. Any suggestions?

Yamaha...don't buy cheap?...you will regret it!...

We own FIVE. Our Steinway does not fit into our SUV for chamber music jobs . . . The last one we got was an M-Audio. 88 keys - semi-weighted action - weighs 17 pounds. Yes, you will need an amp. We use 2 Gallien-Krueger amps - pricey, but good sound and lightest weight for most power, 20-20K response. 5 good piano sounds. Jacks for all you need. Has not only a damper pedal but a TRUE sostenuto!! As if you were gonna play Debussy on a gig . . Also get a swell pedal for volume - trust me, it avoids nasty loud moments.
