How can I sing and play guitar at the same time ?

Question:I always f*ck up one of them.
I am not a good singer at all but I would like to actually try it though, or at least growl.
But how can I do it without screwing one of them up ?
What's the trick to it ?

I had, and still have some problems with it.
I think the trick is to know the rythm of the guitar and keep it like a pattern, then you just add your voice.
It is important to keep the tempo, tap your feet for the tempo, the guitar and the voice should follow the tempo, and not viceversa.

Practice, Practice, Practice, like the first days when you were learning to play guitar.

Try easy songs like "Have you ever seen the rain",
"Enter sandman", the accoustic version of "Diamonds and Rust"; these songs are easy to begin with

start by playing a simple song on the guitar such as "Mary had a little lamb" and sing along. the words should come so natural that the main thing to focus on is playing it on the guitar. then build your way up. you'll get better! i promise!

The same way you can learn to rub your stomach and pat your head at the same time - Practice.

If singing is your weakest skill, practice the guitar part until you know it so well that you can play it without having to think about it very much -- then you can focus most of your attention on your singing.

I have that problem. You just have to practice and hope you get better.

When I'm playing I use a music stand and have a book with the words to the songs I'm doing. That way I can cheat when I forget the words.

I'm primarily a musician and think more of the music when I hear a song and not the words so I have to work to remember the words. I'm usually pretty good with the music unless I'm trying so hard to remember the words that I forget the chords.

How can you screw up if yu know the guitar. The problem is to do 2 different things simultaneously.
