Position:Home>Performing Arts> Acoustic guitar strumming?

Question:I've been playing the acoustic guitar for almost a year and am pretty proficient with chords and music theory but am struggling with my right hand now. With a pick I often times play to loud and out of control with no touch for those softer songs. Any tips? and also, do a lot of acoustic players just use their hand without a pick? thanks.

Many guitar players use Pick and the 3 fingers to strum or play simultaneously. This way, you have better control of the volume automatically.

You'll build up callouses and be just fine.

I play a Acoustic in my friends band I play with out a pick sometimes it is just easer if it works for u do it that way if u need more help email me at thewebkinz13@yahoo.com I have been playing for 2 years now

gave up my pick years ago. found that I like the sound better.

If you want to learn to play softer and with more sensitivity on slow songs, you have to practice that. Consciously focus on lightening up your touch on the strings with your strumming hand; consciously focus on developing more control.

One thing I'd strongly recommend for playing on softer, slower songs is to put down the pick and learn to fingerpick, or just strum with your bare thumb and first finger instead of a pick.

Try using a lighter gauge pick?...or hybrid picking?...ie...pick and fingers!...
