Question:Does anybody have some remedies for stiff and lethargic fingers for a piano player? I have a piano performance tonight, but when it gets cold outside, my fingers don't like to be as nimble and responsive as they can be. Does anybody have any cures? Thanks.

Glenn Gould used to soak his hands in hot water.

This won't help for tonight, but there are some good "joint formula" glucosamine tablets that really work. I think one brand is called "Move Free." They help the joints feel better, fresher, springy-er, but have to be taken like a vitamin, every day. Not only will your fingers feel more nimble, so will your knees and elbows.

Good luck!

Wear gloves and try to keep you hands warm. Home depot and sports stores usually have these handwarmer packages for skiiers and people who work in the cold. Try those.

Stretching after you play or practice will help. Try doing a longer than usual warm up too.

Kick butt tonight.
