As always, it depends on what you want to spend for a beginner setup. An beginner guitar needs to be playable...which usually puts guitars below $200 out of the range. If they are cheaper than that, they usually won't be very easy to play, and that may affect how much enjoyment a beginner gets out of it...and how long they will stay with it.

I like Fender as a good low end acoustic. They usually use good wood, and the designs have been around for a while. Depending on what music you want to play, a cutaway can be a good investment for a beginner. The first link has the acoustic pages from Musician's Friend...that's a site I use frequently.

Epiphone and Yamaha have some decent stuff as well. Remember, you're not going to be getting great sound from a beginning guitar usually. You also want to be aware of size. A dreadnought guitar is fairly big...you want to be concious of who will be playing it. I have a great dreadnought Fender 12 string, but it's huge and almost too big for my hands. My best guitar is a Santa Cruz OM...small parlor guitar with HUGE sound (not a beginner guitar by any means). There are a variety of sizes, so look carefully, and try some out.

Another brand that I have had some experience with is Art & Luthier out of Canada. These are great little guitars, made by the Seagull folks...just a subbrand. I have played one that a friend has, and it's really a great sounding guitar for the money (I think around $200 or maybe a little more).

As for Peavey, they make a low-end set of electric guitars that in general I'd stay away from. Peavey is much more well known for their sound equipment, and that's what they are best at.

fender and peavy are good for learning

i have a vintage acoustic they are really good for the money look and sound great,
not heard of peavey.

Peavey is a good brand. Also Gibson and Fender, some can be pricey. A fender squire will run you about $300.

may be First Act discovery acoustic guitar .
i m a beginner too. i have this one.

A fender is the best choice for begginers and it comes with helpful advice. But electrics are cooler!
