If you have an acoustic guitar there will be 6 strings. If you are righty you will place the neck of the guitar to your left allowing you to play with your dominant arm. Otherwise, reverse the process. The last string placed at the bottom should be the highest sounding string an E4 (generally made of clear nylon), and the upper-most string should be the lowest sounding with an E2. Strings are counted 1,2,3,4... from bottom to top. These are the notes you need in each string:

1) E4 2) B3 3) G3 4) D3 5) A2 6) E2.

The number next to the name of the note is the register on the piano. This is important as you need the right pitch on the string. You can find videos online on how to tune a guitar. Remember that changes in temperature affect the strings and will get your guitar out of tune. So you will need to tune it practically everyday you play it. Here is a web-page that can help you visualize it. Good Luck!
