Position, height, and types of pickups can alter the quality of sound coming out of your guitar. The standard stratocaster alignment for pickups contains the slanted one b/c the higher strings give off different outputs of sounds. Due to the lower strings' differences, and the bridge pickup generally being more towards the bass sounds, it's got a slight slant.
