Go to a music store and buy a tuner.

If youre trying to sing better, then sing a note, and the tuner will tell you if youre flat or sharp. You can then adjust and gradually learn what different tones sound like.

The same applies if youre playing a musical instrument. I hope this helps.

Not if you're tone deaf. Go to someone who can check, a musician

I dont think you can make yourself not tone deaf, sorry.

Ask yourself this question -

Can you recognise the difference in the voices of your friends and family? Can you discern higher from lower voices?

If you can distinguish the difference then you should be able to distinguish the difference in tones. It will take practise.
One of the easiest ways is to realise the extremities of your vocal pitch, and your usual talking pitch range. You may need someone musical to assist you with this. Have a reference point from which you can work out pitch. With practise you may find that you are not tone deaf.

It is not impossible to fix this as some are suggesting. The question will really be how long and hard do I want to work? You will make the most progress if you work with someone who has a trained ear?

From working with other students who struggle with this, I have found that you will want to feel the notes before you will be able to hear them. Hum (lips together and teeth apart and lots of space in the mouth) and visualize the sound coming out behind the nose. Do you feel a warm buzzing sensation?

Now play a note on the piano that should be in everybody's range - say the D above middle C. Can you find it? It will feel "full" when you are matching the pitch. This is where a second person could become invaluable. Purposely go higher and then come back to the note, then go lower and come back to the note. Finally, slide the pitch above and below the note allowing yourself to come to a rest on the given pitch. When you can do this, change the note.

You will have to go slowly and keep the sound forward in the face to be able to "feel" when you are correct. This can be helped, but it will take time.

And do not buy a tuner - the voice is naturally going to have vibrato and the tuner is way too sensitive to be useful for this purpose.

Hope this helps!
