The brand you get doesn't really matter, and as you only have a small budget you won't be able to afford one of the top brands anyway. Look around a lot, go to different music stores and try out some of the guitars they have.
Seeings as you're only just learning to play, I'd avoid buying an online guitar as you want to know what sound the guitar makes.
When you listen to the sound the guitar makes, listen for a rich but clear tone. Also, when you buy guitars it's important that you feel comfortable playing it and that it's easy to move around on.

I hope that helps, and good luck learning to play!

Um.. It really doesn't matter on the brand, just the quality.

Try going to a nearby music shop like where they give lessons.

They should have cheap quality guitars.

Nothing until $300+

Go to a musical instrument store that sells used gear. A pawn shop won't stand behind what they sell and you don't know enough yet to know if the guitar is worth the money or not. Get help from the store staff and get the best you can afford. You might consider a travel guitar. They're smaller scale and cheaper but still decent quality and playability

I'm assuming you mean an acoustic guitar... Epiphone is a good brand, and you can find them online for around $150. They sound fine, and how long they last is directly influenced by the care you give them. Don't think that it's going to sound as good as a $2000 Martin, but it will be a good beginner's guitar that you can reach the next level on. At that point you won't care how much they cost. Then the real trouble... eh, I mean fun and creativity begins. These guitars almost never have cases included, but you can get a soft case or gig bag for about twenty or thirty bucks. Good luck, and happy jamming.

In my experience when you cheap out on the instrument you will get frustrated and the thing will lose it's appeal. You didn't specify acoustic or electric but get a good brand name and if you can, get someone's opinion on it (not the person trying to sell it to you). A good guitar in excellent condition is a real joy to play but one in bad condition (like a warped neck) will just frustrate you. Figure on spending $300-$500 for a decent instrument.
