Position:Home>Performing Arts> I am a beginning bass guitar player and i want a good way to memorize what notes

Question:I use a shorthand notation system.
Open G (First string) is 1/0
G# / Ab is 1/1
A is 1/2
A# / Bb is 1/3
B is 1/4
C is 1/5

Open D is 2/0
D# / Eb is 2/1
E is 2/2
F is 2/3
F# / Gb is 2/4
G is 2/5

Open A is 3/0
A# / Bb is 3/1
B is 3/2
C is 3/3
C# / Db is 3/4
D is 3/5

Low E is 4/0
F is 4/1
F# / Gb is 4/2
G is 4/3
G# / Ab is 4/4
A is 4/5

and so on. I put the shorthand notation over the note and the note name underneath until my students memorize a note. We take away the shorthand notation first, and then the note name last. Pretty soon you will have all the notes memorize, even if you just memorize one per week. The idea is that the system is just a little bit cumbersome to use so you won't want to hold onto it. the small b "b" is also used to designate a flat. Hope this helps.

You should write them down. Then keep on practing then one day you will be able to memorize them on time
Just like one of my recidle s I didnt mess up because I was working hard

practice, practice, practice, you will soon get a feel for where the required note will be and also if you get your fretting organised it should only be a matter of moving up or down the neck , if you concentrate on the scales then it will come.

try going to guitar chords.com,ive been playing 30+ years,i learn something new everyday.!

just do scales.... pentatonics, major, minor, and chromatic scales and say the note as you play it.
