MA Arts Administration?

Question:Hello All,
I am a great Dance enthusiast and have been learning, organizing and performing (as a volunteer) for ~7 years. I am currently working with an IT consultancy company but want to change my career into performing Arts. I want to blend the technology and performing arts and have many ideas to implement. I want to organize shows and finally open my own dance school(as a long term goal).
Could you guide me whether MBA in Arts Administration right option for me?
If yes then which US universities are good in it and also what's the scope after this degree (salary etc)
If not, then how should i proceed?

Most MA programs in Arts Administration are going to require that your undergrad be in an arts related field, this isn't the case with the MBA where your undergrad can be in any field.

An MBA will give you the knowledge and background required to develop your business idea into a viable venture whereas an MA in Arts Admin (or an MBA concentration) will concentrate more on how to manage and develop existing programs and particularly those that are non-profit and board directed.

I'd suspect that you will find that an MBA more closely meets your educational needs if what you want to do is create a new venture and operate it as a business.

You should attend the best school you can get accepted at.

Add: If it were me (and it sort of is) I'd do the MBA without a concentration and then an MA/MFA in the field (dance). The Arts Admin part is going to be a touch redundant and heavily non-profit based.

I don't know of any MBA/MA programs, but Art Institute of Chicago has a MA in Arts Administration. I have been looking into their program myself.

if you want to run your own dance school you should get an MBA. Look up university Alliance. I am doing my MBA with Regis university now, where I went for undergrad, but this time all online. It rocks, and the degree you get is the same as the oncampus degree. You need a strong business foundation to run any business. Basicly, it increases your chances of success.

MBA is a great tool to further to advance your career goals. However you are missing a key element to be competitive for a Management position, direct work experience in the field. Alot of schools offer part-time, night, and weekend mba programs with good reasons.
Your first step should be to get professional work experience in the performing arts.
