Yes i think it is a great idea to take performing arts at college, i myself want to take this course when i leave school, and i think it will be great. As for the people saying you wont be the next hollywood starlet, how do they know. I mean come of it these hollywood starlets started somewhere didnt they. Who knows maybe you could become a top performer someday. I say go on this course, get an agent and be successful

I think its a high school

dont do it, you wont get far in life with a qualification like that.

If you want to waste your time yes, but bear in mind you are not going to be the next Hollywood starlet. You'll soon get sick of having no money and no permanent job, then decide what you should have done in the first place get proper qualifications and a proper job. Dreaming about being a celebrity does not pay the bills!

yes ! so you could have both skill in performing and smart brain . ratehr than some nerd who has no talent ,whatsoever

If you are open to self expression and wish to hone those desires...then performance art is for you.....perhaps and intro course would be a good start.

If performing is what you want to do, then yes, do the course. I always though people on those types of courses looked like they were enjoying their studies a lot.

depends upon your bent of mind.

It beats real work!

You can search for colleges that offer this major. New York University boasts that it has a graduate in EVERY SINGLE Broadway show now running! Hartt School of Music/University of Hartford (CT) has an excellent Musical Theater program. I would strongly advise attending a college in a major city where there are acting and musical opportunities - they are not only for YOU, but your teachers are more likely to gravitate towards locations where THEY can get stimulation - and additional employment - beyond teaching. So - look at New York, Boston, Philadelphia, Los Angeles, etc. - places known to have excellent arts communities.

As a college grad and music major, I say go for it. Many of my classmates in choirs, bands and theater productions were not music majors. If you haven't decided on a college, research a little. Call the departments, music and theater and ask if non-majors are allowed to perform, how much and what is available. Most colleges have good departments with a little something for everyone.

Big state schools are highly competitive, where smaller private schools, liberal arts especially, have more opportunities for everyone.

Yea it fullfills art and history requirements if you are taking another major.

It gets you a AA or BA if you just want a degree.

It isn't warantted to get you a job (of course what is?)!

Generally you have to take body movements before going into something like acting.

That means dance or pantomime.

You may also have to take theater history before you can do anything else.
