House doesn't "injure" his leg. He had a condition called "muscle death"; basically, the muscles in his thigh started to die, causing him pain. The doctors figured it out too late; the damage was already done. His wife at the time (Stacey) chose to have the doctors operate on the leg and take out the dead muscle tissue rather than amputate his leg. House has always had the limp. I have been told that he drops hints in the early seasons about how it happened, but I haven't seen it. I believe it was due to a school time football injury, or along those lines.

I assumed he had a motorcycle accident...
