It sounds like you're talking about a volume change - if so, you set the amp for your lead volume on the bridge pick-up - then switch to the rhythm pick-up and turn it's volume down to where you want it. Then when you switch pick-ups there's a volume boost. Each pick-up has it's own volume and tone, unlike a Strat.

Depends what kind of SG but if you have a 5 way switch you can go from the 2nd(from the bottom) to the 4th switch mode(2nd from top). In other words from humbucker at the bridge to humbucker at the bridge and neck. I may be slightly off because I don't play Gibsons(although) they're great. Try it.

Rock on!

Oh if you have a 2 way you just go from bass to treble.

Solo pickup is the treble position. Rhythm pickup is close to the neck and indicated on the selector switch as Rhythm.

The middle position is an in-between sound of treble and rhythm pickups.
