Position:Home>Performing Arts> How can I make my high notes better?

Question:I have a voice coach and have been taking lessons for 2 1/2 years.
I'm good and I can reach my high notes, but they aren't as clear, strong, and loud as I would like them to be.
I would like to improve by my next voice lesson in a few weeks, so I can really impress my voice teacher.
Any advice?
Thanks.

Its all in the breath. Get those lungs good and strong, and make sure that you can hold a lot of air in your diaphragm. When it comes to high notes, you need more air to get them flowing correctly. Big breath = better clarity and strength. My breath support got tremendously better when I started working out and swimming. I do abdominal workouts every day, even if its just a little bit at a time, and my voice has improved more than I can tell you in about a month. It is really amazing and my voice teacher is really impressed with the improvement.

Good luck!

Start at middle C (or any note that you're comfortable with) and go from that note to the note an octave higher by making a loud, long and steady "aw" sound. Make sure that it's a smooth and constant sound. You want to hit every note in the octave, not just eight notes. The longer you do it the better. Now go one note higher. Each time go a little bit higher. This really improves your range.

The above suggestion is a good way to start. Do you have a practice vocal warm-up routine given by the instructor? Are you practicing your materials regularly?
Regular practice and use of your warm-up routines will be the best option. Improvement doesn't come in a day or a week, it comes over an extended period of time with regular practice.

My suggestion is, in the morning, use your warm-up routine. Secondly, later in the day (or whenever you practice), do the warm-up routine again and then practice your materials. Your warm-ups don't have to be specific times of sitting down to practice, they can be done while you're in the shower or at the computer.
Just practice more often, you'll be surprised at the results.

You can practice 5 hours a day, 7 days a week and you will not damage your voice.

If you find that you are sore after 1 hour of practice, then your breathing is wrong and i realize that you are already over 2 years singing. Doesn't matter, I teach guitar to advance players and some still hold their guitar pick wrong. So I correct them.

Same for your voice....it's an instrument except, you can't change it for a better one like I change my strings when they are finished.

Exercise and try to push the next highest note than the one you are trying to get clear.
