I have always kept a large package of silica with mine but I live in the northwest on the coast, where humidity is an issue. Most importantly do not get it wet or expose to the sun for long periods of time (don't leave it on the bed all day in front of the window...) The case is designed to protect it from abuse not weather. Keeping it at a stable temperature and out of the sun is probably going to be best. My guitar is a 1976 Takamine C132-S and is still in very good shape.
