Position:Home>Performing Arts> Clarinet disassemble frequency ??

Question:Hi ,
I bought a student plastic Sib Clarinet..I really enjoy practicing ;and I want to play 5-10 minutes and then after half 2 hours later; want to blow 10 minutes more,etc... My question is : Do I need to disassemble every day ;or can I keep it compact(assembled) but just use swab to clean moist and keep it like that..

Take it apart at least once a day, probably put it away while you're sleeping. When you put your clarinet together it squeezes the cork in the joints- that's what holds it together. If you keep it together all the time the cork will stay compressed and won't work as well, and the clarinet joints can get wobbly. Also, the joints can stick together from dirt and spit getting into them. I have a clarinet that was kept together for decades- maybe 50 years. The joints stuck together llike they had been glued and this made it very hard to fix.

It's probably best that you disassemble every day, but you can just swab it and leave it out (on a stand, very important) for a while. The disassembly just ensures that the clarinet holds its shape better, as climate has a great impact on the particles that compose the horn.

You can leave it assembled as long as you clean it out after every practise session. I would buy a Clarinet stand! This is a little 'pole' like structure that you can put your clarinet on. don't lie it down. If you do it can bend the keys and damage the Clarinet! Be careful with it on the stand though! It can get knocked over so put it in a corner. I have accidently knocked it over SO many times my parents cringe every time it happens!

BTW If its a plastic clarinet its unlikely to get damaged by weather
