MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!!

Ok. It's like this... First, you have to know how your guitar is tuned. The sound of each string --- don't press anything yet! --- should correspond to the musical notes E-A-D-G-B-e. That's the "standard tuning". If you are not sure about the sound of the each string of your guitar, go to www.fender.com. I think they have an online tuner there.

Now, if you're already set, here's how to read tabs:

1. Normally, the strings are arranged -- and read -- like this:

e - the thinnest string --------------------
B ----------------------------------------...
G ----------------------------------------...
D ----------------------------------------...
A ----------------------------------------...
E- the thickest string --------------------

2. You'll see numbers along the lines like these:

For example:

e -----2----------------------------------...
B ---------3------------------------------...
G ------------2---------------------------...
D ----------------------------------------...
A ----------------------------------------...
E ----------------------------------------...

What is the first number? The number 2, right! The number 2 stands for the second (2nd) fret of your guitar. Find the 2nd fret in your guitar. If you've found it, press the "e" (thinnest) string on the 2nd fret.

Then go to the next number: number 3. It's in the "B" string. Press the "B" string on the third fret.

And so on and so forth; reading from left to right.

Another example:

e-------------------------------------
B-------------------------------------
G--------------0---------------------
D-----------0------------------------
A-------2-----------------------------
E---3---------------------------------

As you can see here, the first number -- number 3 -- is on the "E" (thickest) string. Now, the number 3 stands for the third (3rd) fret of your guitar. Press the "E" string on the third fret.

The second number is 2 and it is on the "A" string. Go to the second fret of your guitar. Press the "A" string on the second fret.

Next, you see the zeroes? It means that you don't need to press anything in your guitar. Just make the corresponding notes sound. In this case, the first zero is on the "D" string. So, just strike the "D" string and don't press anything. The next zero is on the "G" string. Don't press anything and strike the "G" string.

Phew!

I hope I've been of some help! (hahaha)

What are you asking?

At the begining of each series of 5 lines, there is a number that coresponds to a string on the guitar, if I remember 6 is your low E, its either that or backwards.

The number in the line, that coresponds to the music is the fret number.

Example: 6 ----------------1-----3------0-----1----...
5 ----------2-----------5-----------------...

So, on the 6th string on your guitar, you would play the string while the string is depressed at the first fret.
For where the two strings are played together, it would act like a chord.
The 0 is an open string, (no frets)

Get a very basic song, like Ode to Joy or something, something that you would recognize by ear. And try it out.
